Pale straw with green hues. It is lively with citrus aromas hinting at mature lime and grapefruit. The French oak influence adds complexity. A fine backbone of acidity keeps the wine fresh and crunchy. An outstanding example of Tumbarumba chardonnay.
This style of chardonnay lends itself to classic pairings. This wine pairs beautifully with fish and seafood or a classic lemon risotto.
Tumbarumba had a warm and dry growing season, which was balanced by some late summer rain to rejuvenate the vines. Moderate yields of high quality chardonnay was a standout for the region.
Situated 450 metres above sea level, the vineyard for this wine sits on light decomposed granite soil in the southern corner of Tumbarumba. The vineyard’s sheltered valley environment, with suitably warm-ripening days and cold nights is ideal for the growing of premium Chardonnay grapes for the Rowlee range.
The fruit was hand harvested in March 2018 and immediately transported to the winery where it was gently whole bunch pressed. The lightly fined juice was racked to new and one year old French oak barriques for fermentation. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in oak on lees for 9 months with fortnightly lees stirring. The wine was then blended, lightly fined, filtered and bottled. Released February 2021.
